One Sunday each month our children collect a special “Noisy Coin Offering.” Our congregation loves this special part of the service as we watch our youngest children walk up and down the rows with metal pots or coffee cans. Members fish coins out of their pockets and purses and drop them loudly into the cans as our children learn the importance of giving to others.
The Noisy Coin Offering originally started as part of Presbyterian Women’s Two-Cents-A-Meal Initiative. Every member of the congregation was encouraged to contribute a few cents at each meal so that our accumulated funds could help alleviate hunger and poverty around the world. The clang of our coins into the cans is one of the ways we can all “make a joyful noise unto the Lord” while teaching our children how small gifts can make a big impact to those in need.
